Description

X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 (EN 1.4462 / UNS S32205). Dual austenitic-ferritic microstructure provides yield strength approx 450 MPa (nearly twice 316L), PRE approx 35, excellent immunity to chloride SCC. Standard for offshore, desalination, chemical and pulp/paper industries.

Sigma Phase
Extended exposure above 300 C reduces ductility. Max continuous service: 280 C.
SCC Advantage
Duplex 2205 is essentially immune to chloride SCC — primary failure mode of 316L in chloride environments above 50 C.

Good but requires care. Use 2209 filler. Maintain interpass temperature <150 C.
